Journo Resources is a non-profit started up which aims to diversify the media industry, using unique tools and resources, along with practical events, to give people the tools they need to break in and progress.
I started the project in June 2016 from my bedroom, frustrated at the lack of help and guidance for young people looking to break into the industry. Now, in 2019, we receive more than 30,000 hits a month, have a newsletter list of almost 3,000, and more than 10,000 followers across social media.
I presented to more than 1,500 people at events in 2018, with two-thirds agreeing they were now more confident in their careers as a result.
In 2018, I was awarded the Georgina Henry Award for Digital Innovation at The Press Awards and in 2019 I was shortlisted for WeAreTheCity’s Rising Stars Award for my work on the platform.
Online Resources I’ve Collated:
- Advice Blog: Twice weekly editorial output on the biggest topics for people looking to break into journalism, edited and commissioned by myself.
- Freelance Resources: Everything from pitching guidelines to how much you should get paid, using crowdsourced data.
- Jobs & Opportunities: We’re the only jobs board which refuses to list jobs which don’t have salary ranges and are the only place to list all UK grad schemes in one place, as well as producing guides for popular schemes.
- Money: Everything from crowdsourced data on salaries to opportunities for funding.
